Waiting
Daley delights
Friday,
July 26, 2002
OMAR Daley continued his impressive form at Everton by scoring
another goal for the club against Scottish team, Burscough, on
Tuesday, but will have to wait a bit longer to know his fate at
Merseyside.
As his stint
draws to a close this month-end, it still remains anybody's guess,
whether the English Premier League club will decide on a permanent
move for the pacy midfielder.
"We'll take
our time, we'll make decisions when we're ready to do so and when
we are, we'll let the supporters know right away," said
Everton manager, David Moyes, on the team's website, evertonfc.tv.
"There's no
real time scale when we have to make a decision ... obviously
we'll discuss it with the rest of the coaching staff and we'll see
where we think is best to go," he added.
However, Moyes
said he was delighted with contribution of his three trialists
since their arrival and suggested that "each of them does
have a chance to secure a permanent move to Goodison".
Apart from Daley,
Brazilian forward, Juliano Rodrigo, and Greek left-back,
Konstantinos Loumboutis, have all been under the watchful eye of
the Everton coaching team, and have all impressed so far.
Daley and Rodrigo
both traveled with the Blues' first team to Austria for the
pre-season camp, while Loumboutis joined the squad only this week.
And in the game
against Burscough earlier this week, Daley scored in the 45th
minute with an astonishing solo effort when he picked up the ball
on the halfway line, "outpaced the Burscough defence and
rounded the keeper", said the club's website report.
"The
Jamaican international applied the coolest of finishes ...,"
the report went on.
The "Blues
XI", which cruised to a 3-0 win at Victoria Park, also had
youth players Steven Beck and Alan Moogan hitting the target.
This was Daley's second goal for the Liverpool club. In their
pre-season warm-up game against, SC Weiz last Tuesday, the
Jamaican international "weighed in with a brilliant
individual goal" in their 10-2 win
And the day before, the 20 year-old was in sparkling form when he
hit the post in the first minute and supplied an assist in
Everton's 3-1 triumph over SC Bruck.
The Hazard United midfielder was also instrumental in the team's
3-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

Boyz rally to beat St Lucia 3-1
August 12, 2002
Tivoli Gardens striker, Roland Dean, scored a second-half brace to lead Jamaica to a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over a spirited St Lucia at the splendid new National Stadium in Vieux Fort last night.
Jamaica's other goal-scorer was Harbour View's striker, Fabian Taylor, who could not have asked for a better return on leading his country for the first time.
The game failed to provide any excitement in the first 10 minutes but then the home side brought the crown to life with striker, Valencious Joseph, forcing Donovan Ricketts into action. He had a flashing header well saved by the Jamaican custodian.
However, the lanky striker would be back later with a more telling effort. Only 18 minutes had gone when he leapt high to head past Ricketts, much to the joy of the near capacity crowd (8,000) at the superb new facility.
The Reggae Boyz pressed hard for the equalizer but St Lucia kept as many players as possible behind the ball and relied on counter attacks for the first 45 minutes.
It was all Jamaica in the second half and it was no surprise when they pulled level. Dean, on for Richard Henry in the 35th minute, rifled home a right-foot volley in the 73rd minute after receiving a long pass from Sheldon Battiste.
Taylor put his side ahead five minutes later when he nodded home a Claude Davis pass from a Dane Richards left-side corner.
Dean completed his brace seven minutes from the end when he spun his marker inside the 18-yard box and powered his shot well out of reach of goalkeeper, Abraham Mentor, with the aid of a deflection.

Nothing
has been heard about Daley's trial since the start of the English
football season.
The manager has proclaimed that the club has no more money for
signings so its fair to assume that this is a dead issue.
The thing that struck me about comments made on Daley's behalf and
from what I've seen of him, he appears to be an very skillful
player - but a bit impatient and selfish on the ball.
Jamaican footballers on trial need to remember that the English
game is truly a team game, not based around individual skills.
Solo goals and runs are great, but in most cases they want to see
how the player would fit into a team situation, hence the
trial.
Who advises these young players?
Who's responsible for them when they go on trial? Does JFF or
their club send a representative with them, or just their Agent.
They need guidance and they also need to understand what is
expected of them.
That's the JFF's job IMHO. They stand to gain the most.
